Giving in Ramadan

The act of charity has often brought out the best values out of people. Generosity. Kindness. Compassion. Empathy. Such values are only a few of the beautiful values that Islam strives to preach amongst all those who practice it. Giving back through charity is thus a highly encouraged – and even obligatory – act in Islam. With it comes lots of promised blessings and rewards, and in the holy month of Ramadan, such acts carries more value and importance.

Ramadan is a time for Muslims to strive to be a better version of their own selves. It matters less what they have been doing the rest of the year, what’s more important is their intention to try to be more than what they’ve always been. The month therefore eases this intention as Muslims are with other motivated Muslims as well. As they abstain from food, drink, and worldly pleasures, they focus more attention on practising good deeds.

It is thus one of the best months for Muslims to contribute to charity work, and give back to the less fortunate.

What can we do?

There are various ways for one to give back through charity. Our Propher s.a.w. has mentioned that even a smile on a cheerful face, or a few utterances of zikr are considered as charity. With money, you can also donate in mosques or give tips to restaurant owners. Whatever amount you give, the good intention will carry itself to benefit others.

Here in Skolafund, Ramadan this year is the month we hustle hard for our Big Community Campaign. With a goal of RM 1 Million, we aim to make studying easier for students with financial problems. If you wish to know more about this unique campaign that strives to help students from less fortunate families, head here. Alternatively, you can also donate to other platforms such as Syria Relief or the United Nations. InsyaAllah, each cent will count towards making life better for other people this blessed month.
